Gwai is the Shona word for Lamb. This beautiful Gwai is lovingly handmade by a talented Zimbabwean woman who has fallen upon difficult times. Catherine had her eye removed due to cancer, and has not been able to find a job since. Knitting is the only way she is able to provide for her family.
Our hand knit little friends are made cotton and are stuffed with a cotton toy stuffing.
Wash by gentle sponge cleaning.
PHILANTHROPY: Zimbabwe is in crisis. Hard economic times are upon the people of Zimbabwe, and the struggle to find any piece of hope to hold onto is very real. Knitting these little friends not only provides an income forCatherine, but also hope and a sense of purpose. She supports not only herself and her children, but also her mother and sisters. Catherine hopes that she will be able to save enough to get a prosthetic eye so that she will be able to return to normal life. Each fairly traded toy is a purchase with a purpose.
We always strive to be as true to the original design as possible. However, as with most handmade items, they each carry its own set of unique differences. These handwoven goods are just as unique as each of the ladies who have created them. Dimensions may vary ever so slightly.
